Institution Profile
Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), a Ministry of Education-affiliated institution, is a key university under the national “211 Project” and “985 Engineering” initiatives, and a member of the national “Double First-Class” program. Ten of its disciplines rank in the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings, with Chemistry, Materials Science, and Engineering achieving the top 0.1% worldwide. The School of Life Sciences and Technology was formally established in 2003, building upon the 1986 Biochemical Engineering program. It serves as a core pillar for the university's “Double First-Class” initiative and stands as a vital base for cultivating high-level talent, driving scientific innovation, and facilitating technology transfer in China's biological and pharmaceutical sectors. The school stands among China's earliest institutions to achieve deep integration between life sciences, bioengineering, and pharmaceutical engineering. Its disciplinary development has achieved remarkable results. Leveraging research platforms such as the National Key Laboratory of Green Biomanufacturing, the Beijing Key Laboratory of Green Chemicals Biomanufacturing, the Beijing Innovation Center for Synthetic Biomanufacturing Technology, and the Beijing Key Laboratory for Research on Drug-Resistant Pathogens and Intelligent Prevention and Control, the disciplines of Biology and Biochemistry consistently rank in the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings. Biological Safety has been designated as a Beijing High-End and Cutting-Edge Discipline, while Biological Engineering received an A+ rating in the fifth round of the Ministry of Education's discipline assessment. In 2025, the college was approved to establish a new school dedicated to the biological sciences.
Outstanding Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) Project Positioning
The Outstanding Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars (including non-ethnic Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering, and technology to return to or come to China. They will independently select research directions to conduct innovative studies, accelerate the growth of young scientific and technological talents, cultivate a cohort of outstanding academic leaders poised to advance to the forefront of global science and technology, and contribute to building China into a science and technology powerhouse.
Eligibility Criteria for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas)
1. Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess sound scientific ethics, and consciously embody the spirit of scientists in the new era.
2. Date of birth on or after January 1, 1986.
3. Hold a doctoral degree.
4. Primary research focus in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields.
5. After obtaining the doctoral degree and before April 15, 2026, applicants should generally hold a formal teaching or research position at a renowned overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D center, with a continuous work experience of at least 36 months. For those with outstanding achievements who obtained their doctoral degree overseas, the work experience requirement may be appropriately relaxed (this does not apply to doctoral degrees obtained through Sino-foreign joint training programs). For applicants holding concurrent paid positions within China during their overseas employment, the duration of such domestic paid positions shall not count toward the overseas work requirement.
6. Possess research or technical achievements recognized by peers, demonstrating potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field
7. Applicants must not yet have returned to China for full-time employment, or must return to China for full-time employment after January 1, 2025. Upon receiving funding notification, they must resign from their overseas position and commit to full-time employment in China for no less than three years.
Outstanding Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) Support Policies:
01 Dedicated Mentorship
Upon confirming application intent, the school will assign a dedicated liaison and recommend nationally recognized experts for tailored guidance.
02 Long-Term Development
Appointed as a Level II Professional Technical Professor (full professor rank, permanent faculty position) with competitive compensation and uncapped research performance bonuses.
03 Team Support
Assigned team assistant positions (public institution status), dedicated doctoral student enrollment quotas, ample master's enrollment quotas, independent research office space, and substantial research start-up funding.
04 Living Support
One-time relocation allowance and living subsidy provided. Temporary housing or corresponding rental subsidy offered. Spousal employment arranged. Priority recommendation for children's school enrollment. Medical coverage provided.
