The 3rd International Chemistry Olympiad for University Students was organized by Makhtumkuli State University of Turkmenistan, in which more than 200 students were sent by 23 universities and colleges from 13 countries. After a fierce competition, Mr. Zhao Jianyu from the College of Life Sciences finally won the first place gold medal in category B.

The International Chemistry Olympiad for University Students is an important international academic competition, which aims to strengthen international academic exchanges and cooperation, stimulate the interest and enthusiasm of university students in the discipline of chemistry, and train high-quality professionals for the rapidly developing chemical industry. In addition to the competition, the organizers provide a more comprehensive learning and communication opportunity for the participants by organizing activities such as academic lectures and cultural exchanges, and at the same time promote international academic exchanges and cooperation.

The competition covers the fields of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry. Participants are required to complete a series of theoretical questions within a specified period of time to demonstrate their chemical knowledge and skill level. Participants can practice their chemical experiment skills and theoretical knowledge, improve their chemical literacy, and at the same time communicate with outstanding university students from all over the world to make progress together. The competition groups are divided into A and B categories: A category is participated by chemistry majors; B category is participated by non-chemistry majors.

In this competition, Zhao Jianyu not only won the final awards and honors, but also gained a clearer understanding of the fields of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry and other fields, and gained growth! At the same time, it will also inspire other students to continue to work hard and study hard so that they can win again in future competitions.

Profile: Zhao Jianyu, undergraduate student majoring in Pharmaceutical Engineering, College of Life Sciences, GPA 3.91, won the first prize of Beijing University of Chemical Technology Laboratory Competition. During his tenure as the president of Chemistry Association of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, he has planned and organized events such as the Chemistry Association Freshman Cup and the Molecular Model Assembly Competition.
